IPC 7711 Rework Skills Certification Kit

When the experienced soldering and rework operators and technicians on your staff need IPC 7711Rework Skills Certification, or recertification, you’ll really appreciate how much time and money this kit can save you. Instead of sending employees to classes for two or three days, they work on the projects in this kit at their own pace. There are no deadlines, no pressure, no hassle, no travel or stay-overs. Once the projects are finished, they are returned to Circuit Technology Center for evaluation and grading. Upon acceptance, the Operator who completed the project will receive the official IPC 7711 Rework Skills Certification for Operators. It’s that simple…and you’ve saved a bundle on travel expenses and time away from work.

Although we offer IPC Certification Courses at our training center, and on-site at customer locations, this Certification Kit uses the Challenge Test provision of the IPC 7711/7721 Rework and Repair Certification Program. As an official IPC Certification Center, we are authorized to allow Operators to take a Challenge Test, without attending live training course. Operators who successfully complete the projects in this Certification Kit will receive the same certification as Operators who attend live training courses.

Operator Experience
This kit contains challenging projects to test an Operator's soldering and rework skills. To expect a passing grade, it is advisable that Operators have a reasonable level of experience, or prior training. A Practice Kit is also available.

Practice Kit
Studying before a big exam has always been a good idea. That’s why we put together the Rework Skills Practice Kit that will help Operators become familiar with the various rework methods before certification. They work on the practice projects as long as they want, building their confidence, then go for official IPC certification.

Grading
The project grading will be to current IPC-A-610 Acceptability of Electronic Assemblies criteria. Operators select either Class 2, or Class 3 grading. Operators will be graded in 10 sections. Operators may omit sections if certification in those areas is not required by their organization. Operators will receive a Certification only for those sections completed successfully. To receive a successful grade in each section every element of the work must meet or exceed the IPC-A-610 Acceptability of Electronic Assemblies criteria. Only minor blemishes are acceptable. The 10 sections include the following.
  • Through Hole Component Soldering
  • Through Hole Component Removal
  • Chip Component Soldering
  • Chip Component Removal
  • J-Lead Component Soldering
  • J-Lead Component Removal
  • Gull Wing Component Soldering
  • Gull Wing Component Removal
  • Fine Pitch Gull Wing Component Soldering
  • Fine Pitch Gull Wing Component Removal

How It Works
  1. Upon receipt of the kit the Operator verifies the contents and reviews the Project Instructions. Included with the kit will be a bare circuit board, an assembled circuit board,  a variety of through hole and surface mount components, and an Authorization Form. It is advisable that Operators practice using scrap materials before attempting them on the official circuit boards. A practice kit containing the exact same materials is available.
  2. The Operator hand solders the supplied components onto the bare circuit board per the instruction in the Soldering Skills portion of the project. See below.
  3. The Operator removes the required components from the assembled circuit board per the instruction in the Component Removal portion of the project. See below.
  4. The Operator places all the removed components into a black plastic bag marked "Return Components" and places the plastic bag into the return shipping case.
  5. The Operator places both completed circuit boards into the return shipping case.
  6. Both the Operator and a Supervisor sign the Authorization Form confirming that the work was completed by the Operator without assistance. This form also includes a check off to select either IPC-A-610 Acceptability of Electronic Assemblies Class 2 or Class 3 grading criteria. The Authorization Form is also placed inside the return shipping case.
  7. The shipping case is closed and latched and returned to Circuit Technology Center in the return shipping bag provided.
  8. Upon receipt at Circuit Technology Center our Certified Instructors will examine the circuit boards and components, and grade them according to the IPC Class 2 or IPC Class 3 criteria selected. An official IPC 7711 Rework Skills Certification including the Operator name will be mailed to the address listed on the Authorization Form.
